         Things are very exciting at our Eltville company site right now: we are getting a heat pump that uses geothermal energy. Several ground drillings and the corresponding pipes are being installed at a depth of about 100 meters. And this is what the geothermal driller looks like in action in the thermal video.

          We are happy to announce that we now sell our new and cost-efficient Laser Beam Profiler including the relevant beam analysis software.

          Our high-resolution array sensors are equipped with various planar filters for use with different laser beams of varying wavelengths. Depending on the use case and equipment, it is possible to choose between a sensor with a pixel pitch of either 90μm (80×64) or 45μm (our highest resolution option 160×120).

           We are proud to be part of the PROACTIF project funded by the European Union’s Chips Joint Undertaking, in which we develop a special IR sensor for drones and other unmanned vehicle technologies (UxV).

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

            The German consortium brings together 42 leading European technology companies from 13 countries The consortium is developing an innovative multi-sensor module that automatically detects heat. This compact unit combines radar and infrared technology in which Heimann Sensor plays a crucial role. The combination of short- and long-range radar with three innovative packaging technologies results in a lightweight, robust system that can detect the precise location of pockets of embers in forest fires, even beneath the tree canopy.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           It anticipates generating around €90 million in revenue, 50 products, and more than 15 new industry patents by 2035, enabling increased market share and leadership. The project's additional impact includes dozens of new collaborations, hundreds of new jobs, and over €40 million of additional investments.

           Designed to meet the toughest industrial conditions, it features high-temperature operation up to 180 °C, hermetically sealed packaging for long-term durability, a separate, dedicated reference channel sensor and integrated temperature reference for thermal compensation.

           Technological leadership:
          &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;

    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

           These innovations are based on monolithic thermopile sensors. Now, sensors with a maximum resolution of 160x120px and a minimum pixel size of 45µm in a TO-8 package are possible, using modern semiconductor technologies and microelectromechanical system (MEMS) methods. The latest developments, e.g. in the design/geometry of the pixel or the absorber material hand in hand with the appropriate selection of the protective gas or wafer level packaging (WLP) and a suitable optical coating the latest sensor generations lead to a significant increase in the signal-to-noise ratio SNR.  This not only has a positive effect on thermal resolution (NETD), but also enables more competitive pricing through optimizations in optics.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           In direct comparison to competing methods (e.g. microbolometer or radar sensor), thermopiles stand out with particular advantages:
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;ul&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            In principle, uncooled and shutterless radiometric operations with extremely high refresh rates are possible (e.g. up to 160 Hz for the 8x8 array). In addition, there is no need (as is usually the case with bolometers) to interrupt detection to record signal drift or reference signals to compensate for the ambient temperature.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Since thermopiles generate an electrical voltage through IR detection and therefore work passively, possible electronic consumption is only limited to the necessary additional electronics (ASIC, ADC, flash, etc.), which enables battery-powered applications.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            In comparison to radar sensors, which are also used to detect people, the principle of a completely passive sensor excludes any concerns about radiation exposure and additionally enables easier data processing without interference from other sensors.  Of course, the IR thermopile sensors cannot only detect people, but simultaneously can measure the temperatures of any other objects in the room without contact.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/ul&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            ﻿
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
           Products for various applications:
          &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           The large portfolio of possible optics and thus the scannable viewing angle (FOV) represents a unique selling point in the global market. A wide variety of applications can thus be covered, e.g. the detection of distant objects with a small viewing angle (FOV=10°) to wide-scale room surveillance (FOV =120°). In addition for the medium viewing angle range (FOV=30-50°), there are solutions ready by almost every array size. On top, an in-house optics simulation team enables quick and customer-specific adaptation if special optics are desired for a specific application.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           Still, the portfolio goes far beyond temperature sensors as single, module (with digital and analog output) or array models.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Thermopiles (in combination with an infrared light source) are also utilized to measure the gas concentration of certain gases. The basic measurement principle is called Non-Dispersive Infra Red gas detection (NDIR), which is based on the absorption of infrared radiation at certain gas-specific wavelengths according to Lambert-Beer's law. The most common gases measured using this NDIR principle are carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and hydrocarbons (HC). Gases such as carbon monoxide (CO) and nitrogen oxides (NO) can be detected, too.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           MEMS Pirani vacuum sensors enable extreme accuracy compared to classic Pirani sensors equipped with a filament. They allow measurements in a pressure range from 1000 mbar (atmospheric pressure) down to 1E-3 mbar (HVS 04) and 10 mbar to 1E-5 mbar (HVS 03k). The miniature sensors are delivered in a small and robust TO-39/TO-46 metal housing. By installing the HVS 04 and HVS 03k together in a TO-8 housing, the entire pressure range can be covered.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
           A Glance into the future:
          &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           The use of modern AI algorithms empower IR sensors to automatically detect people. This becomes particularly interesting when data protection makes the use of normal cameras difficult. Low-resolution sensor arrays, such as the 16x16, 32x32, are the right choice, as faces cannot generally be identified. Applications extend from Ambient Assisted Living (AAL), for example in retirement homes or nursing homes, to monitoring public spaces/buildings.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           The 45µm pixel size allows a kind of hybrid solution: installed in the WLP, the 60x40 array represents new standards in terms of sensitivity, size and speed for thermopile arrays. The sensor can be installed in the housing of its smaller brother (32x32), but is thanks to the SPI interface fast (21 Hz with 16 bit ADC resolution).  With 15 mW electrical power loss it has about ten times lower consumption than comparable bolometer models, which facilitates very effective battery-operated use. In addition, because of its number of pixels, it does not fall under the dual-use regulation.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           In the version with 160x120 pixels, the sensor fits into a TO-8 housing. Like the 60x40, it has a flash memory for calibration data and works at approx. 10 Hz with 16 bit ADC resolution. Mass production is anticipated for the first quarter 2025.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

           Intrusion Detection, the automated sensing of a person or animal into a surveilled area, is one of the main applications of low-resolution thermopile arrays like Heimann Sensor's 32x32 array. It is used for safety and security as well as for making life easier and more comfortable. Examples are smart buildings with functions like smart HVAC control and smart lighting for energy savings. The same system can be used as a security alarm. Other functions include wellness checks of invalids and older people living alone, fire prevention and elevated body temperature detection. The advantages of low-resolution thermopile arrays for these applications are: no privacy issues, independent illumination (day/night), not affected by smoke in case of fire or while cooking, detection of stationary people while sitting or sleeping and low-cost.
          &#xD;

  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;

This option is a perfect cost-effective solution for person detection, room surveillance, smart home solutions as well as AAL systems.

      <title>Successful Completion of the Funded Project „FLEMING“</title>

           The research project FLEMING, funded with 3.3 million Euro by the German Federal BMWK Ministry (Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Klimaschutz) has now come to a successful completion. The project developed flexible monitoring and automated control systems for the energy and mobility transition the society will face in the next couple of years.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           The project, which began in 2019, investigated how improved sensor technology in combination with AI can help to improve the reliability and resilience of power distribution grids. As such, it provides an important puzzle piece to further extend the needed infrastructure for future mobility.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           There is a need for a good prediction and monitoring of the actual temperatures within the switching components of the distribution grid. This requirement is mainly caused by the rapid increase of the numbers of electric cars, which are predominantly recharged in the after-work hours.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           The temperature monitoring can easily be realized by using low-cost infrared cameras, covering a large area within the switching gear. Infrared cameras are able to provide many more measuring points than any contact measurement method. Additionally, the collected information can be used to discover faulty areas within the switchgear and therefore help to predict failures.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Heimann Sensor participated in this project and developed long-term stable thermopile arrays with lifetimes exceeding those of the components used in the power distribution grid. Heimann Sensor improved the lifetime of these sensors by a factor of five, using a new sealing technique. The achieved lifetimes are between approximate 30 to 50 years.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           The prototypes developed in this project have an adapted field of view, which fits best to the interior of the switching gear. They provide 32x32 single measurement spots (pixels) which all provide radiometric data. Additionally, Heimann sensor developed methods to detect and compensate for possible contamination and dirt. The thermopile array consumes merely &amp;lt;20mW at 10 FPS, with an idle mode provided for even lower power consumption. Communication with the sensor is via a sophisticated I²C interface. The sensor itself comes directly with calibration data stored on the internal EEPROM of the device. This makes integration in embedded systems or edge computing solutions fast and straightforward.
           &#xD;

    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

After successfully completing the development of the HTPA120x84d, our engineers started right away with developing the worldwide first 160x120 thermopile array. It is amazing how clear contours and shapes become with this array. This opens a new era of thermopile imaging and forms the basis of many new applications and services.

            The possible uses of Heimann Sensor's infrared sensors, arrays and gas sensors are diverse: from medical applications such as fever measurement and capnography (measurement of the carbon dioxide content in a patient's exhaled air) to private areas such as ambient assisted living and temperature regulation of electrical appliances in the kitchen and bathroom to industrial applications in process control, the automotive industry or in the smartphone sector.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;

            At the time we made our first Application Sets that allow quick evaluation of array sensors and ease development efforts, the sets needed a power supply unit connected to a wall socket. This made it diffictul to use our sensor in various testing environments like outdoors or in places with no available sockets.
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
            The subsequent generation was already able to supply power over USB with Ethernet communication. Hence, just a notebook was needed and more flexibility guaranteed. Nevertheless, connecting two cables could result in messy setups. That is why we launched a new USB Application Set with power AND communcation provided with just one USB cable.
             &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
            For the next step of development, our aim was to create a set without cables to make the SDK a versatile tool for development and sensor evaluation. This became possible through the emerge of new ESP32-DEVKITC-32D boards with WiFi connectivity which are available - seperately - on a budget (&amp;lt;10 USD: https://www.digikey.de/en/products/detail/espressif-systems/ESP32-DEVKITC-32D/9356990).
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
            Hand in hand with our new Application Shield and corresponding source code, it is possible to connect ALL array sensors WIRELESS to our ArraySoft v2 GUI and show realtime thermal images. From 8x8, 16x16, 32x32, 60x40, 80x64, 84x60 and 120x84 to all future generations this will be possible with just one add-on board.

           All this became possible with a completely renewed design including 45µm thermopile pixels - the smallest ever reported. We use a fast 6 PIN SPI communication to achieve high framerates of 21.2 Hz in calibrated temperature mode and even 45 Hz for uncalibrated voltage mode, which can be used for person detection.

    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

           The power consumption of just 15mW is outstanding and even lower than that of our 32x32 thermopile array sensors. Together with fields of view of up to 90°, this new sensors are ideally suited for battery driven smart home applications.

           Wenn ein Unternehmen Infrarotsensoren zur berührungslosen Temperaturmessung, Thermografie und NDIR-Gaskonzentrationsmessung entwickelt und fertigt und damit eine technologisch führende Position einnimmt und die Antwort auf die Frage nach dem Erfolg auf diesem hochkomplexen Markt lautet, dass aus vielen anfänglichen Problemen und Geldknappheit einfach eine große Kreativität und der Wunsch nach Eigenständigkeit gewachsen sind, lässt das aufhorchen. Bei der Heimann Sensor GmbH aus Dresden lässt noch einiges mehr aufhorchen.

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Heimann bietet seinen Kunden eine breite Mischung aus Standardprodukten wie Einzelsensoren für Fiebermessung und Gasdetektion und regelmäßig lancierten neuen Produkten wie immer höher auflösenden Thermopile Arrays und SMD-fähige Singledetektoren, die sich durch ihre ausgezeichneten Eigenschaften vom Markt abheben. „Standardprodukte sind bei uns oft die Cash Cow“, sagt Geschäftsführer Dr. Jörg Schieferdecker. „Für unsere Reputation am Markt und konstantes Wachstum sorgen eher die neuen Produkte.“
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Unabhängig sein und bleiben
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

           Gegründet wurde Heimann 2002 von fünf Mitarbeitern, die zusammen mehr als 100 Jahre Erfahrung im Infrarot-Bereich mitbrachten. Auch wenn damit das entsprechende Know-how da war, gab es Anlaufschwierigkeiten. „Die Unternehmensentwicklung verlief ähnlich der eines Kindes, mit vielen Problemchen“, blickt Dr. Jörg Schieferdecker zurück. „Das Geld war knapp, unsere Kreativität umso größer. Klar war, dass wir uns kein Geld leihen wollten, welches mit einem Verlust von Eigenständigkeit und Entscheidungsfreiheit verbunden ist, weil wir diese auf keinen Fall verlieren wollten. Wir alle wussten, dass die Freiheit einer völlig unabhängigen Firma unbezahlbar ist.“
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           So brachte Heimann auf der Basis von Erfahrung, Kreativität und Unabhängigkeit immer wieder innovative Produkte auf den Markt – und spürte auch den Gegenwind vom Wettbewerb. „Hier in Dresden profitieren wir von einem hervorragenden Umfeld“, betont Dr. Jörg Schieferdecker. „Zu Kernmitarbeitern wichtiger Firmen konnten langfristige Freundschaften aufgebaut werden, was half, um technologische Innovationen überdurchschnittlich schnell in marktfähige Produkte umzusetzen.            Die Frage nach den Unternehmenswerten ist damit zum Teil bereits beantwortet: Innovation, Kontinuität, starke Kundenbindung und Mitarbeiterzufriedenheit sind zentrale Eckpfeiler. Gelebt werden diese in täglichen Meetings, bei denen es genauso um neue Produkte wie um Verbesserungen von Qualität und Service geht. Es reicht nicht, sein Metier bestens zu beherrschen, man muss ähnlich wie ein Alpinist, kontinuierliches Risikomanagement betreiben und im Auge behalten, dass nicht nur wir uns weiterentwickeln, sondern auch der Wettbewerb. Neugierig und offen bleiben, aus eigenen Fehlern und denen der anderen lernen, Visionen gemeinsam umsetzen – für uns sind das entscheidende Antriebsmotoren für die Zukunft.“

            introduces a new generation of single element thermopile sensors with optimized

           thermal heat shock

    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            behavior. The new
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;a href="/HMS-P-Series"&gt;&#xD;
      
           HMS P-Series
          &#xD;
    &lt;/a&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;

            allows fast and accurate measurements even under rapidly changing ambient temperatures or so-called heat shock situations.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Heat shock situations typically occur when the sensor is quickly moved from one ambient temperature to another as it is the case with in-ear thermometers. Once the thermometer is inserted into the ear opening, the sensor temperature is exposed to a different temperature. As thermopiles compare incoming radiation (temperature) with a reference temperature (sensor), a quickly changing sensor temperature will result in inaccurate readouts until the sensor reference temperature is stable again.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Our new HMS P-Series possesses an improved thermal heat shock behavior thanks to its design. A higher thermal mass of the sensor housing combined with materials of high thermal conductivity and a filter integration make up the success factors.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           The heat shock response is improved by factor 5 compared to a standard TO-package which is shown in the following graph. This allows accurate readings within 0.2 seconds after a heat shock occurred, whereas a standard sensor needs 1 to 2 seconds until its readout is accurate again. This presents a huge improvement for in-ear thermometer devices regarding speed and comfort of in-ear temperature measurements.
          &#xD;

          offers the full range of thermopile arrays starting from small to medium to large sized arrays. Our smallest 8x8 arrays fit inside a TO-46 housing and can be used for example for non-contact body temperature measurements from distances of 30cm to 1m. Our medium sized arrays with 16x16 and 32x32 thermoelectric elements fit well inside a TO-39 housing and are best for low resolution thermal imaging applications like person detection and counting for intelligent HVAC, burglar alarms or hot spot detection in household applications like stove top monitoring.

          Our largest sensor so far was the 80x64 array inside a TO-8 housing, available with all kinds of different optics with an ultra-wide field of view of 120x90 degree and a narrow field of view of 12x9 degree for far distances. This sensor has a 6 pin SPI interface for fast data transmission which allows framerates of 30 Hz and more.

          Our latest development is an even higher resolution thermopile array with 120x84 elements. The beauty of this new array is the reduced pixel pitch, which is now 60 µm instead of 90 µm. Thanks to same TO-8 housing and 6 pin SPI interface this facilitates a drop-in solution to replace the 80x64 with the 120x84 array. If you are already using the 80x64 array, you can just replace it with the 120x84 array to have better resolution while everything else remains unchanged.

           Heimann Sensor is proud to present the new SMD type dual channel thermopile sensor designed for NDIR gas analysis. We are the market leader in thermopile arrays and sensors. With our patented thermopile technology, we produce very fast thermopiles and fully monolithic thermopile arrays with high signal and high specific detectivity.

           Important applications for NDIR gas detection include indoor and outdoor air quality monitoring, gas leak detection and industrial process control. In addition, there are medical applications such as monitoring the CO2 concentration in human breath (capnography) or monitoring and controlling N2O anesthetic gas concentration.

           In the current worldwide COVID-19 crisis, HEIMANN Sensor has become one of the key players in fighting the spread of the quickly developing pandemic by manufacturing sensors and sensor modules that are used in fever thermometers or temperature screening systems. Not only hospitals, medical practices and pharmacies increasingly use non-contact, infrared thermometers for indicating potential Corona patients.  Even in more and more companies and public areas around the world, handheld portable thermometers become the tool of choice for detecting elevated body temperature. 
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;

           Temperature screening systems, which are permanently installed at entrances of airports, companies, public buildings, schools or other institutions, can automatically detect elevated body temperatures from greater distances. In all these tools, HEIMANN Sensor products like the HMS M21 for contactless thermometers or HTPA32x32 and HTPA 80x64 for elevated body temperature screening systems provide the centerpiece.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
      
           On top, HEIMANN Sensor is one of the very few producers of special, fast reacting CO2 gas sensors, which are installed in capnography devices, incubators and respiratory equipment. As a small percentage of coronavirus patients develop severe health issues including acute respiratory illnesses, their survival depends on the continuous monitoring of their lung function in intensive care stations. Hence, HEIMANN’s production of gas sensors has become crucial in the worldwide health care.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
      
           Consequently, the demand for HEIMANN Sensor products has increased exponentially during the past few weeks. While it was already challenging to meet the growing demand in the beginning of 2020, the near shut-down of the economy in Malaysia mid-March, where two of the main assembly lines of HEIMANN Sensor are located, were dramatic. After proofing systemic importance to the Malaysian government, HEIMANN Sensor was granted special permission for reopening part of the assembly line. Still, HEIMANN Sensor keeps fighting for the complete reutilisation and expansion of its capacities in its main assembly lines. 
          &#xD;

      <title>The Challenge of Production Ramp-up in Times of Corona</title>

           In the past months we have taken multiple actions to increase our production output and overall capacity, while still maintaining a high product quality. The challenges we faced in this time were manifold. They included material shortages  due to Corona induced closure of suppliers starting in China and then affecting many countries all over the world. We faced quality issues in raw materials, that immediately impacted our production output and long lead times of new production machines that did not allow us to ramp up production as fast as required by our customers.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           With the ongoing spread of the virus in more and more countries, Malaysia faced an increasing numbers of Corona cases which which led to a closing down of all companies not classified as systemically relevant by the Malaysian government . Unfortunately, we were included in this lockdown initiated by the Malaysian Movement Control Order (MCO). We were able to obtain an exemption permission after two weeks to resume production under strict conditions. The regulations included reduced manpower, access control, sanitary precautions and social distancing, which could only be achieved by rearranging our production lines. With the remaining staff, we continued production on a low level to keep up the supply of thermopile sensors. On June 1, we were allowed to start hiring new staff, which was the first major progress to increased sensor production.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Since July 1, our Operations Manager, who lives in Singapore, is allowed to enter the country again. After a quarantine of two weeks, he was allowed to enter our production building on July 15th for the first time in four months of lockdown.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Meanwhile, the situation in many countries seemed to have settled a little. After we have been able to overcome the biggest challenges our target is to double the weekly sensor production compared to 2019 by the end of this year.

      <title>New Opportunities Despite Corona</title>

            Many companies in Germany had to announce short-time work during Corona, dismiss employees and some are on the verge of insolvency. Since we are lucky to produce infrared sensors, which are urgently needed during the pandemic for contactless clinical thermometers and respirators, Heimann Sensor was able to increase its production strongly in the past months and offer new chances to many people.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            These now include 10 Syrian employees who fled from the war in 2015 and came to Germany. Wael Kiji, who has been working with us since 2015 together with his wife, helped us to find 8 more committed employees in a short time, who also came with him to Germany in 2015.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

           We have produced a new company video with many relevant information on our thermopile sensors. Focusing especially on applications with our new thermopile arrays which are available with resolutions as high as 80x64 pixels. From elderly person fall detection to intelligent HVAC control and burglar alarms, our thermopile arrays can be used in many different ways. Even new body thermometers that measure your body temperature from distances from 30 cm to up to 1m distance are possible with our small and cost effective 8x8 arrays.
